Two Australians created this container that collects plastic, paper, oil, fuel and detergent floating in the ocean. They want to implement it the middle of next year to clean up the sea worldwide. It seems a great idea. The only “but” as always is money, so they are raising funds to get to their goal. You can see their project and donationshere.

It’s true, the people I see least in the crypto/privacy community are the people who need it most. Marginalized minorities who have been dealing with unjust surveillance long before it was performed en masse. Encryption is a tool to protect human rights and civil liberties, but it’s doing a poor job if it remains solely in the grasp of the privileged. Privacy is as essential as food and water. Everyone needs it, but like food and water, there is an unacceptable discrepancy in terms of who has access to it.
I post so much about the encryption debate and privacy because it matters to you. Yes, you. The reader. Specifically. Right now.
